General Purpose and Scope of Position:
As a Principal Research Scientist your expertise will allow you to deliver customer centered products and solutions by collaborating with cross-functional business partners including sales, production, procurement, laboratory services and food safety/quality.
Leveraging your technical skills and working alongside technical sales, you'll make a direct impact on the business to help our pet partners flourish.

What you'll doAs a Principal Scientist, you will serve as the manager and executor of research studies related to pet food ingredients and antioxidant technologies.
You will manage portions of the value-added Innovation/R&D pipeline and provide technical support that enables the business to meet financial targets.

Create horizon scans and competitive landscapes to demonstrate product opportunities.
Build and evaluate project business cases to prioritize R&D priorities.
Manage a pipeline of innovation and product development projects.
Drive the development of new products and solutions for customers including short-term and longer-term opportunities.
Qualify new ingredients as part of product development, business continuity and/or cost savings.
Execute benchtop experimentation, plant trials and research tests.
Maintain and industry presence to gain insights on trends, market threats, and opportunity spaces.
Minimum
Qualifications:
MS or PhD in a relevant technical field (chemistry, biology, food science, animal science)15
years of Laboratory, Product Development or Product Innovation experience in a food, rendering, pet, beverage, agricultural or related industryStrong research and technical writing skillsAbility to work hands-on in a laboratory settingUp to 25% travelPreferred
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of pet food ingredients and oxidation chemistryAbility to draw conclusions and make business decisions through interpretation of data from well-designed researchAbility to lead projects autonomously and assist in commercializationCompensation - Benefits & Perks:
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $130,600 - $182,900 per year with a 15% incentive target.
Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience.
